DHB score a
TREV Nomination

DHB were nominated as the TREV BEST HEADLINING BAND (Entertainment) by Kim Portch from Gordon Institute of TAFE for their performance there in September.
Alas it was not to be as DHB lost out to Regurgitator, which was a shock to all concerned, mainly to DHB drummer Matt Rose who wondered how a band with a major recording contract and with somewhat of a celebrity profile would even be eligible for such a contest. It isn't that Regurgitator isn't a worthy winner; they are, but when you compare them to the other nominees in this category and see a lot of humble, hard-working bands with much lower profiles than the 'Gurge, well, it seems a little one-sided. According to Deb's sister Tammy, it was like "giving a Little Aths award to Cathy Freeman".
It isn't the first time Matt and Regurgitator have crossed paths. Matt was previously the drummer for another Melbourne area band, who had scored an opening slot for the 'Gurge. Without a doubt it most certainly would have been this band's most important gig to date. With only six days remaining until the big show, it was decided that Matt was no longer in the band and that the sound man was immediately replacing him on drums. He was given this news over a $100 "sorry we're sacking you" steak dinner.
So it appears that, as far as Matt is concerned, Regurgitator represents some kind of karmic force destined to ruin his career at every opportunity. On the other hand, it could just be a spooky coincidence.

DHB hit the road to somewhere
Fri, 1 Sept 2005
The long-awaited DHB tour of regional Victroria kicks off with an all-ages FREEZA show in Bannockburn. DHB are playing consecutive weekends throughout September, taking in Geelong, Warrnambool, Shepparton, Bendigo and Ballarat.
So for all of you who have friends and rellies in these regional areas, here is a good excuse to visit and show them a good time!
All shows will be played with super-duper melodic pop outfit Kathematics, except the Bendigo show, which will be supported by the wonderful blues/rock sounds of The Curious Few.

Mustering up some anarchy
Fri, 8 April 2005
You can't say DHB don't deliver a variety performance! They are folking it up at the Mt.Beauty Music Muster from 22-24th April and Deb is doing a live to air for Wodonga ABC radio on Friday morning 22nd to promote this. For those of you wishing to catch a breath of fresh air and hear some great music at the same time, visit www.musicmuster.org.au.
To celebrate ANZAC Day, The Espy are hosting the annual ANZAC Day Anarchy extravaganza, and DHB have been asked to play -- so hot on the heals of Mt.Beauty, they'll be rawking it up in the Espy public bar.

Hello, is a Miss Wall there?
Sun, 6 Mar 2005
Deb has been spotted on the back of this year's Brunswick Music Festival program! That's right, DHB are playing a short acoustic set for the Live at The Library series at Brunswick Library on March 23 at 7.00pm. This event is presented by the Brunswick Music Festival and is free. Deb also plays her first solo show in six months with Emma Wall on Friday 11th March.

Deb goes Country... just kidding
Fri, 28 Jan 2005
Deb flitted over to Tamworth for the first time, to take in the sights (and weren't there some sights!) and sounds of The Tamworth Country Music Festival. Deb attended songwriting workshops with contemporary Australian country songwriters and performers, Kasey Chambers, Beccy Cole, Melinda Schneider and Troy Cassar-Daly. Check out her photos here. An added bonus was sharing a dorm in the YHA youth hostel with a real life Jillaroo who was a hoot and also declared that she was auntie of Miranda Murphy (that's right, the Popstar runner up...or was it Australian Idol, or X-Factor?). Deb did observe a resemblance, although Sam was banned from singing in the dorm.

PVFM gets plenty of Deb
Wed, 29 Dec 2004

Deb was special guest in the studios of Plenty Valley FM, being interviewed by Leo Gattano. The interview was an hour long and included Deb playing Hold My Breath and Meet Me Here live, as well as a few CD tracks lifted from Stage and Left To Spare. It was a thoughtful interview with intelligent questions. You can hear a sample of the interview here.

Best Female Soloist, as voted by Melband
Thu, 28 Oct 2004

Deborah Hocking was voted Best Female Soloist of the year on the Melband Forum. Whilst this was shared with Kathematics, Kathematics is a band so it's only right that Deb takes all the glory in this case!
Also this month, DHB played Deakin University in Burwood (see photos).

Two weeks in Tassie - Clayton's Duo Tour
Mon, 27 Sept 2004

Deb and Raelene embarked on their two-week "Clayton's Duo" tour. For all those not in the know, that's a duo tour when you're not actually a duo. They played shows in the North, East, South and West of Tassie and stopped by for a few radio interviews along the way. You can hear their interview on ABC Statewide (with David Lee) here and check out photographic proof of their frivolity here.

Do you Darebin?
Thur, 25 August 2004

DHB have been billed for the Darebin Music Feast coming up in September. Watch the street press and look out for the sexy Darebin Music Feast programs soon to hit the streets, which will have all the details you will need to be entertained in the most Darebin of ways.

Nomination #3 for Songsmith Award
Fri, 28 May 2004

Deb returned from her whirlwind tour of NSW to find that her entry to the Ranges Songsmith Award was once again selected as one of the 10 finalists -- this time, with her song "All The Difference". In previous years, "D-Day" (2002) and "Blessed Be" (2001) made the Top 10 for the Ranges Songsmith Award -- will it be third time lucky?!
The Top 10 finalists will perform at the Ranges Folk Festival this coming Sunday (see details below). We'll be looking forward to seeing anyone there who's already set to attend the Festival! Make sure you come and say g'day!

Teasing the Sydneysiders
Sun, 16 May 2004

Deb is off to NSW for a whirlwind tour. Never one for a holiday, while she is there she'll be playing two solo shows -- at the Hard Rock Cafe, Sydney (Tues 18th) and Parakeet Club, Katoomba (Fri 21st) and doing an interview on 2 Triple H, as well as sussing out suitable venues for the imminent (hopefully sooner than later!) DHB east coast tour! Meanwhile DHB have put in to showcase at the National Folk Alliance Conference in Adelaide, October of this year!

It's in the Can
Tue, 23 March 2004

This week DHB were made feature artist on The CAN website, an online retail and distribution resource for independent artists. The CAN provides artists a unique opportunity to promote and sell their music to the world, via a non-exclusive consignment deal where they choose their slice of the deal.

Don't hold back... turn to Channel 31
Sat, 28 Feb 2004

Once again, the pesky threesome will be getting their mugs on Russ Kellet's show on Channel 31. Tune in on Saturday 6 March around 9am to catch his all-Australian music show.

DHB on the air again
Sun, 25 Jan 2004
DHB will be chatting to Claire on the 3PBS (106.7FM) "No Frills" show this Wednesday night from 7pm.
3RRR (102.7FM) will also be playing Left to Spare all week to promote the EP's launch this Saturday January 31st (see details attached). It'll be a huge night with the new electric sound and the winner of the DHB competition to be announced on the night!
It's not too late to get your entries in -- see left panel for more details on how to enter.

Don't move! Deb's got a radio gig...
Sat, 20 Dec 2003
In a last minute crazy gig (in keeping with this time of year), Deb will be playing a Paul Kelly song on 3RRR's JVG Radio Method's "Bummed Out" Christmas Show. Other special guests from his show throughout the year will be playing, including Dan Warner (from Dan & Al) who's doing a Tom Waits number!
Deborah Hocking Band's last gig at Hardimans last night was a scream (sorry it wasn't advertised on the website *webmaster got a lashing*). Hats off to Rick for booking an original band for a Christmas party -- the band discovered that Holy Grail is a good emergency song.
Thanks for all your support during the year and we look forward to seeing you at the Left to Spare launch on Saturday 31st January at The Laundry in Johnson Street, Fitzroy.

Left to Spare EP Launch
Sat, 6 Dec 2003
...will be held on Saturday 31st January 2004 at The Laundry. Put it in your diaries (safe to use INK this time!).
And for those who can't decipher the lyrics in Left To Spare, they are published in Inspyr Issue #2 being launched at Good Morning Captain on Sunday 14th December at 5.30pm.
